Reproductive health is under threat worldwide. The right to bodily autonomy, access to abortion, contraception and sex education is being restricted in many places. Right-wing governments are driving the anti-feminist backlash. This is one thing above all else: unhealthy.
Christian fundamentalist hardliners from Europe and the US see East Africa as a political lever, among other things, and are lobbying there against contraception and safe family planning. According to estimates, several countries will see up to 14 million more AIDS deaths as a result of the disastrous US-AID cuts. In contrast, activists are tirelessly continuing to fight for self-determination and healthcare for all.
The iz3w dossier ‘Reproductive Health’ shows the effects of a reactionary wave on access to and public discussion of sexual health, and how resistance and support structures are nevertheless forming.
