Virage Sud 1990/91 Marseille - Book

During the 1990/91 season, Alain Sauvan photographed the Virage Sud at Olympique Marseille's Stade Velodrome. The ultra groups granted the photographer intimate insights, and the success of the team led by Basile Boli and Jean-Pierre Papin sent the whole city into euphoria.

"When our small tour group traveled to photographer Alain Sauvan in 2022, we had no idea what photographic treasures awaited us. But let me start at the beginning. It started with a photo series in 11 Freunde that I couldn't get out of my head. Why? Because the photos featured icons of the Marseille ultra scene, and when I saw them, I could literally feel the spirit of the time. For a moment, I was back in the 90s, on my way to Bari for the European Cup final against Red Star Belgrade. And there had to be more. A few days later, I had Alain's contact details and we arranged to meet at his place. Alain seemed very motivated and sent us a first selection in advance to get us in the mood. Fortunately, we only had to wait a few weeks before we could see his entire collection.
