To engage in deconstruction in a feminist manner means to develop a critique of patriarchy that profoundly challenges relationships of dominance. Deconstruction generally refers to a form of thinking that problematises our assumptions about the world, which we take for granted and consider to be insurmountable. If feminist theory works deconstructively, according to a widespread academic attribution, then it applies the tools of non-feminist theory to specific feminist questions. This book challenges this narrative. Instead, it attempts to examine how Judith Butler, Donna Haraway, Karen Barad and Sara Ahmed develop deconstructive modes of thinking in order to create an awareness of how hierarchies function. Deconstructive feminism thus challenges the binary gender order, the separation between humans and their non-human “others”, and the intertwining of different forms of oppression.
